Across rural west central Missouri, families are searching—sometimes desperately—for safe, reliable child care. At the same time, many individuals are looking for meaningful work, flexible income, and a way to help.

The Family Child Care Champions program, coordinated by the New Growth Women’s Business Center and sponsored by Kids Win Missouri, brings those two needs together.

If you’ve ever considered starting a home-based child care business, this is your opportunity to do it with guidance, support, and confidence.

What is the Family Child Care Champions Program?

Family Child Care Champions is a 12-month, hands-on program that helps aspiring providers launch high-quality, licensed, home-based child care businesses.

A Family Child Care Home is a licensed facility where care is provided to no more than 10 children in the provider’s home or a home-like setting.

Applications are open now for up to four program participants from west central Missouri’s Cedar, Henry, Polk, and St. Clair counties.

Step by Step Support

Family Child Care Champions is more than training. It’s a step-by-step pathway from idea to opening your doors.

Participants receive:

  • A dedicated mentor who has experience running a family child care home
  • One-on-one support from a family child care consultant for business setup, licensing, and operations
  • A pre-licensing home visit with guidance on meeting requirements
  • Access to up to $2,500 in mini-grant funding to prepare your space
  • Structured training and peer learning through group sessions

The program is designed to help you build a sustainable business that supports both your family and the families in your community.

Is This Program Right for You?

The Family Child Care Champions opportunity may be a great fit if you:

  • Live in west central Missouri (Cedar, Henry, Polk, or St. Clair county)
  • Are interested in starting a home-based child care business
  • Are willing to commit time over the next 12 months to training and preparation
  • Have space in your home, or another home-like setting, that could be adapted for child care (indoor and outdoor)
  • Are motivated to build a high-quality, licensed program

You don’t need to have everything figured out. You just need the commitment to follow through.
