Volunteer Drivers Invited to Spring Meet-Ups and Safety Inspections

Twice each year, New Growth Transit invites volunteer drivers to stop in for program updates and a quick vehicle safety inspection. These gatherings help ensure drivers have the latest information about the program while keeping vehicles ready for the many miles traveled helping neighbors across rural Missouri.

But the meet-ups are about more than inspections. They’re also a chance to connect face-to-face, share appreciation for the miles volunteer drivers provide, and catch up with the New Growth Transit team.

“Our drivers are the heart of this program,” said Kelly Knepp, Volunteer Driver Coordinator for New Growth Transit. “These gatherings give us a chance to thank them in person, answer questions, and hear the stories from the road. It’s always encouraging to see the friendships and connections that grow from this work.”

Volunteer drivers use their own vehicles and set their own schedules, providing rides to medical appointments, jobs, grocery stores, and other essential destinations. The program fills a critical gap in rural communities where public transportation options are limited and distances between services can be long.

The spring meet-ups also offer a relaxed opportunity for anyone curious about becoming a volunteer driver to stop by and learn more. Visitors can meet the team, ask questions, and see firsthand how the program operates.

“If someone has been thinking about volunteering but isn’t sure what it looks like, these meet-ups are a great time to come by and talk with us,” Knepp said. “You can hear directly from other drivers about why they do it and how meaningful it is.”

All sessions are drop-in, and no appointment is needed.
