Fall Driver Meetings
For people living in rural communities, transportation is more than getting a ride. It connects them to the things they need to live, work, remain in their homes, and stay part of their communities.
New Growth Transit volunteer drivers use their own vehicles and give their time to provide rides to neighbors who need this lifeline. Behind every mile is a person who needs a way to get somewhere and a volunteer willing to make that connection.
Our Fall Driver Meetings are one way we support the people who make those connections possible. They are also an opportunity to recognize what can be accomplished when people work together.
Volunteer drivers will come together at five locations across the region, and community members interested in learning more about becoming a volunteer driver are welcome to stop by too.
These in-person meetings, held twice a year, are an important part of keeping our volunteer driver network connected. They give current drivers a chance to hear program updates, ask questions, share what they are experiencing on the road, and have a voice in the program they make possible. New Growth Transit staff listen, provide support, and complete twice-yearly vehicle inspections that promote safety for both drivers and riders.
Thinking about becoming a volunteer driver? Volunteer drivers use their own vehicles and receive mileage reimbursement to cover their driving costs. Current drivers are asked to contact the New Growth Transit office by September 29 to let us know which meeting they plan to attend so we can prepare enough space and materials.
It Takes a Community to Keep Rural Transportation Moving
Volunteer drivers are at the heart of New Growth Transit, but keeping rides available also requires financial and community support.
This year, New Growth Transit is working with 25different funding streams, compared with just four last year, as our team works to bring together the resources needed to keep transportation available to the people who depend on it.
We are also building partnerships with businesses, organizations, community groups, foundations, and individuals who understand the importance of rural transportation.
